FFC Delhi -Visit to Anganwadi

The Integrated Child Development Sevices Programme aims at providing services to pre-school children in an integrated manner so as to ensure proper growth and development of children in rural, tribal and slum areas. ICDS is a centrally sponsored scheme.

Objectives:
- To improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0 to 6 years.
- To lay the foundations for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child. - To reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school drop-out.
- To achieve effective coordination of policy and implementation amongst the various departments to promote child development.
- To enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education
Aanganwadi is a focal point of delivering ICDS services to the beneficiaries.

In Jan ,2007 FFC delhi organised a visit to aanganwadi to study various components of ICDS,how they are dealt with in a community setting.
Area selected: Pilinji Village(Located in kotla,South-ex)
Aanganwadis Visited: Two
Components seen: Supplementary nutrition(Distribution and routine menu chart)
Growth Charting
Volunteers were introduced to the AWW (aanganwadi worker) and the helper.
They also had a brief session with the Supervisor(who looks upon 30 aanganwadis of Kotla region)

Hello,

I would just like to alert you to stories on ICDS being carried out in NDTV 24x7. They are playing at6 and 8 p.m.The stories began on 15th of January and shall continue upto 9th February 2007.

Yeah we sure will have look. We also aware of the fact that ICDS is not as sucessfull nowadays as it previously was ,the scheme is good but implementation improper so we were seeing ways and means by which we could assist in reviving ICDS.
If you have any suggestions Spurthi do let us know.
